In recent years, messenger RNA (mRNA) therapeutics advanced biotech research by leaps and bound, a revolution accelerated by COVID-19 crisis and the diffusion of the mRNA vaccine.

This technology raises technological and scientific barriers for new therapeutic modalities such as the production of therapeutic proteins that are safer and more efficient than conventional monoclonal antibody therapies, with application in different fields such as immuno-oncology and autoimmune disease.In recent years, microfluidic platforms have gained prominence as a promising alternative for liposome synthesis. The precise control over fluid dynamics in microchannels allows for uniform mixing of lipids and encapsulated compounds, resulting in highly monodispersed liposomes population with controlled size and properties. The microfluidic approach addresses issues related to scalability, reproducibility, and particle size distribution, offering a more robust and efficient solution for liposome production.

One goal: deliver first-in-class mRNA therapy

We, at OSE Immunotherapeutics, are an integrated biotechnology company focused on developing and partnering mainly first-in-class therapies to control the immune system for immuno-oncology and immuno-inflammation.

We invested several years ago in the mRNA field, with the creation of a dedicated RNA research hub at the interface of our core technologies, including antibody engineering and data science. The goal of the hub is to harness our knowledge on immunology and rely on the plasticity and new treatment modalities offered by mRNA technology to deliver closer to the pathological site (a tumor or an inflamed organ) first-in-class mRNA therapies in our field of expertise.

InsideTx emerged rapidly as a crucial partner that accompanied us early-on for the setup of the research hub with their first models of microfluidic production platform of Lipid Nanoparticles (LNP). We adopted their technology because of the mindset proximity of our two companies, and thanks to their robust and easy-to-use equipment, we were rapidly able to produce high-quality and reproducible LNP on a small-to-mid scale.

Cutting edge expertise leading to first proof of concept

Our association with InsideTx quickly bears fruit with the emergence of our first mRNA based therapeutic agent for the treatment of inflammatory and autoimmune disorders. Pre-clinical proofs of concepts were established a couple of years later with the delivery of an mRNA encoding for highly potent immunomodulatory protein with curative potential in autoimmune diseases.
